North Bali – Main villages

Lovina

Lovina consists of a string of small villages along the coast of North Bali. It offers plenty of relaxed tropical charm and is the perfect vantage point for exploring Bali’s northern region. Its beaches are among the prettiest on the island, wide and undisturbed. Kalibukbuk, approximately 10 minutes from Villa Bossi, is the centre of the easygoing nightlife in the North. It offers a nice range of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

Singaraja

Singaraja is with two universities the intellectual centre of the North. The wide avenues and colonial buildings remind us of the city’s rich past as the capital and main port of Bali under the Dutch colonial ruling but it remains today without major tourist attractions

Air Terjun Gitgit

About 11 kilometers south of Singaraja is the famous Air Terjun Gitgit. The thundering 40-meter waterfall is impressive, especially at the peak of the rainy season between January and March. The path to the waterfall is lined with souvenir stalls and guides. The popularity of Gitgit has let to the discovery of numerous other lovely but less-visited waterfalls in the area.

Pemuteran

Pemuteran lies on the coastal route to Gilimanuk, the transit village serving the ferry between Bali and Java, and Labuan Lalang, the small harbor that gives access to Menjangan island. The quiet village offering fine snorkeling and diving is a leader in ecologically sound development with several experimental reef and sea life (sea turtles) programs in place.

Bedugul

Bedugul is situated in the middle of the North Bali mountains. Here you find the three holy lakes Tamblingan, Buyan and Bratan, with the muted splendor of the Ulun Danu temple, and of course Kebun Raya, Bali’s beautiful botanical gardens. Its favorable climate makes it the perfect getaway for biking, trekking and golfing.

Munduk

Finally, Munduk, the small farming village in the highlands that is still waiting to be discovered by the general tourist. The picturesque town, which hugs verdant mountainsides, surrounded by coffee plantations and rice paddies, almost brings to mind the legend of Shangri-La.
